Ura grew out of watching my mum struggle, and my own journey of quitting addiction and overcoming anxiety. I saw how deeply those struggles could affect a family. While rebuilding my own life, I wanted to create the support I wished we’d had — something to turn to in the difficult moments, and grow alongside one small step at a time. That’s why Ura exists.

The real story

I started suffering with anxiety when I was around 12 or 13 years old. It became so crippling that I couldn't go to school for a month. I got through that period, and for a while things felt better.

Then, when I turned 15, I started vaping at school. In the toilets, at breaks, anywhere I could. At first it felt harmless. Something everyone was doing.

Then I signed up for a 10-week Muay Thai fight camp. Waking up every Monday to Saturday at 5am, training hard, and still vaping through all of it. Four weeks out from the fight I stopped, and honestly, it felt easy. It didn't even affect me then.

But as the years went on, things changed.

Around 17, every time I sparred I'd get head pressure and unbearable anxiety. I thought I had a concussion that would never go away. I even had an MRI on my head. It came back clear, but I was later told I had PCS — post-concussion syndrome. I felt permanently broken. I kept blaming Muay Thai, going on and off training for months, until the passion I once had started to fade. I eventually saw a therapist, was diagnosed with severe anxiety and was offered medication. I was scared and still trying to understand what was happening to me.

As time went on, I started feeling numb to everything. I kept vaping. I stopped caring about the anxiety, and then I stopped caring about much at all. One day I woke up, looked at myself and thought: What am I doing? I shouldn't feel numb. I should be feeling something.

I'd also grown up around addiction. My mum has ADD, struggles with mental health, and has her own addictions. Smoking, alcohol, medication. My auntie was addicted to ice. From age 5 to 13, her kids lived in our small three-bedroom house. I grew up around the chaos addiction causes in families. I've seen firsthand what it does to people, relationships, and entire households.

At home, my mum was struggling with addiction. Police were coming to our house once or twice a week, and I could see the impact it was having on my little sister. I knew that if no one else was going to change, I had to be the one who did — so I could be strong for her.

That was the turning point. I wanted to understand what I was feeling, quit vaping for good and build a different life, for myself and for her.

By 19, I didn't recognize myself anymore. I could see exactly where my life was heading if I didn't change. That's when I started using AI every single day during my recovery.

For over 5 months, I used ChatGPT like a personal support system. During cravings. Anxiety spirals. Overthinking. The nights I felt like giving up. It wasn't perfect, but for the first time, I felt understood. It reassured me I wasn't broken. It helped me understand what withdrawals were actually doing to my brain and nervous system. Slowly, it helped me rebuild myself.

That experience changed everything for me.

I realized millions of people are struggling alone, turning to addictions, numbing themselves, or being handed medication without ever truly understanding what's happening internally.

And that's why I'm building Ura.

The AI inside Ura is built from the same approach that helped me quit successfully. Real conversations. Real recovery patterns. Real support during the moments people usually relapse. I wanted to create the support system I wish I had when I was struggling most.

Because nobody should have to fight addiction, anxiety, or destructive habits alone, or feel like prescription medication is their only option. People deserve real support, understanding, and hope in their pocket.

The short version
  • Anxiety first hit me at 12 or 13. It became so crippling that I couldn't go to school for a month. I got through that period before I started vaping at 15.
  • Started vaping at 15. By 17, sparring brought head pressure and anxiety. My MRI came back clear, but I was later told I had PCS. I felt permanently broken and drifted away from Muay Thai.
  • I became numb to everything. I kept vaping until one day I looked at myself and realised I wanted to feel again. Seeing my mum’s addiction affect my little sister made me want to be the one who changed.
  • At 19, I started using AI during my recovery. I used ChatGPT every day for over five months. Through cravings, spirals, the nights I wanted to give up. For the first time, I felt understood instead of broken.
  • I grew up around addiction. Mum, auntie, family — I've seen what it does to people and households. I knew millions of others were going through it alone.
  • So I built Ura. The AI inside is built from the same approach that got me out — real conversations, real recovery patterns, real support in the moments people usually relapse.
TL;DR — Ura is the support system I wish I had when I felt broken. I wanted to change my own life and be strong for my little sister. Nobody should have to face this alone.

Fair questions, straight answers.

How is Ura different from a meditation app?

Ura centres on the moment anxiety, panic or a craving feels difficult. Panic Flow offers guided breathing, grounding and practical support steps. Premium also includes personal AI conversations, Journey practices and progress insights for the days between those moments.

I have both anxiety and cravings. Can Ura support both?

Yes. Choose Anxiety & Panic, Cravings & Recovery, or Both. Your answers about triggers, early signs, habits and goals help shape your setup. The Both pathway lets you focus on what you need support with in the moment.

Does Ura help between difficult moments?

With Premium, your personalised plan, daily check-ins, Today’s Focus, Stats and Journey offer small steps at your pace. Explore your next seven days, save private reflections and revisit the practices you choose to carry forward. Reminders follow the times you set.

Can Ura AI remember earlier conversations? Is my data private?

With chat memory enabled on iPhone, Ura can use saved details in later conversations. You can review, edit, forget or clear those details, or turn memory off. AI features require your permission to share relevant context with AI providers; memory is not a full archive of every conversation. Read our privacy policy for how account, recovery and AI data are handled.

Can I use Ura for scrolling and social media urges?

Yes. Social media is one of Ura’s recovery options. Use guided support to make a little space around an urge, then reflect on the triggers you recognise. Premium AI can help you talk it through. Ura offers support with the urge; it is not an app blocker.

What does Premium include, and is there a free trial?

Premium adds personal AI conversations by text or voice, personalised Panic Flow support, Journey and progress insights. Choose your guide voice, support tone and reply length. AI features need your consent and an internet connection. Current prices, billing periods and any eligible trial are shown in the app before you subscribe; trial offers vary.

Is there a free option when I need support right now?

Yes. Guided Panic Flow is available without a subscription or completing account setup. Follow breathing, grounding and other support steps, take more time or change the exercise when you need to. Free guided support stays available if you do not choose Premium.

Who can join my Circle, and what can they see?

Invite trusted people such as friends, family or a partner with your Circle’s code or link. Invited supporters can join for free. You choose when to send a support request and what to share. Starting Panic Flow does not automatically notify your Circle, and your AI conversations are not automatically shared with them.

Is the same experience available on iPhone and Android?

Ura is available on iPhone and Android. Features vary by platform and app version: the latest personalised onboarding, iPhone widgets and some Journey experiences shown here are currently on iPhone. Check your store listing for current availability.

What if Ura does not help me? Can it replace professional care?

You can take more time, change the exercise or reach out to someone you trust. Ura offers wellbeing and self-management support; it does not diagnose, provide emergency care or replace a qualified professional. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency service. Visit our support page for further help options.
